Wedding photographers

Photography is the part of the day you keep. Photographers can only shoot one wedding a day, so the good ones book up as early as venues - and style matters more than kit: documentary, editorial and traditional photographers produce very different albums from the same day.

What to ask before you book

  • Look at two or three complete weddings, not a portfolio of highlights. Consistency across a whole day is the thing to judge.
  • Check they have shot at your venue or in similar light. Dark churches and marquees at dusk are genuinely difficult.
  • Agree the group-photograph list in advance; it is the single most common cause of the schedule slipping.
  • Confirm delivery timescales and what happens to the raw files.
